One of the most frequently discussed questions in cardiac MRI is whether higher field strength automatically translates into better imaging.
The answer is nuanced.
Image quality depends not only on magnetic field strength, but also on sequence design, gradient performance, hardware configuration, and the intended clinical application. In many situations, both low-field and high-field systems offer distinct advantages. Beyond this a decision has to be made: research or routine – MRI today or in future.
To address this topic, Prof. Nicole Seiberlich (University of Michigan) and Prof. Jeanette Schulz-Menger recently co-authored two comprehensive review articles discussing the current evidence, opportunities, and limitations of low-field and high-field CMR.
